SCA-5 Protest at the Cupertino Library
Protesters gathered in the courtyard between Cupertino Library and the Town Hall to rally support against the Senate Constitutional Amendment No. 5 (SCA-5) on Sunday for an entire afternoon, ending around 5 pm.
Around 100 people, ranging from elementary school students to senior citizens, held signs and made speeches in front of the library against the passing of SCA-5. The SCA-5 was proposed in 2012 for the State Constitution to allow public state universities to take into account an applicant’s race, gender, color, ethnicity, or national origin while making decisions. The passing of the amendment would repeal Proposition 209, which prohibited institutions from considering the above.
