Eagle Buddies circus day
School isn’t usually associated with clowning around. But at yesterday’s “Clown Day” for the 11th and 4th grade Eagle Buddies, the students watched clowns perform and learned some circus skills of their own.
After lunch, students were treated to a show from individually hired performers, who hula-hooped and beatboxed. The performers were Jamie Coventry, Ntatasha Kaluza, Sara Moore, and Texas Holly, who all perform independently in the Bay Area. They then split up by advisories and rotated between three stations: juggling scarves, balancing peacock feathers, and face painting.
“I know that big kids like good physical comedy as much as little kids,” said Upper School Performing Arts teacher Jeffrey Draper, who is friends with Sara Moore, one of the professional clowns. “The buddies have fun in simply hanging out together.”
Junior Madhu Nori called the event “quite adventurous.”
“I’m not really that scared of clowns,” she said. “But my favorite part was definitely the face painting.”
The date of the next Eagle Buddies event has been updated to Wednesday, Mar. 30, instead of the Thursday date mentioned in the video. Juniors and their fourth grade buddies will participate in a St. Patrick’s Day party.
