The team huddles for a post game talk after their victory over Castilleja on Saturday. The team then lost in CCS Semifinals to Menlo on Wednesday night.

The Varsity girls’ volleyball team lost the Central Coast Section (CCS) semifinal game against Menlo in four sets at Notre-Dame Belmont High yesterday night. The final score was three sets to one, the score of the individual sets were 25-21, 13-25, 14-25, 22-25.

“It was a little disappointing because our season ended last year with the CCS semifinal, and we were pretty determined to make it farther this year,” said captain Mercedes Chien (12). “But it was a really good game. There were things we could have done better, but overall I was really proud of how we played, and we fought for our lives.”

Even though four seniors will graduate from the team, they look forward to seeing what their teammates will do next year.

“It will be a lot of the same girls. They’ve learned to play together and they’ll do very well because they have so many strong players,” said captain Divya Kalidindi (12). “I have confidence that they’ll be a force to be reckoned with.”

Divya ended the season with 327 kills and captain Shreya Dixit (11) with 236 kills. Shannon Richardson (10) served 41 aces all season. Leading the team defensively, libero Mercedes finished the season with a total of 473 digs and sophomore Doreene Kang with 54 blocks.

The girls ended the 2013 season with an overall record of 14 – 12.
