Students celebrate the beginning of summer vacation

After finishing their morning finals, students flocked to the lunch room. For some, the morning final was their last. For others, there was still an afternoon exam to take before the beginning of their summer vacations.

“Pencils down.”

Pencils had already been down. In fact, like a reenactment of High School Musical 2, students had been staring at the clock, waiting for the proctor to call time. For many, it was the last final of the year, the last day of school, and the first day of summer break.

Upper School students on campus Thursday shuffled quickly out of the room, smiling and laughing as they exited their last exams of the school year.

For some students, the end of exams marked a relaxation period before going to summer school.

“I’m going to attend the Summer Institute here, but otherwise I’m not doing anything in particular,” said Emily Pan (9), who is looking forward to relaxing.

Other students were excited to jump right into other activities, such as sports, arts intensives, or supplementary classes.

“My first day of summer, I actually have basketball because our Varsity summer league is going to be starting. I’m really looking forward to that,” Kevin Su (10) said. “I think starting summer out with basketball is a great way to get exercise after studying for the past two weeks.”

Others planned to leave for trips, enjoying the break in leisure.

“I’m going to a resort with my friends and family. It’s sort of like a break before we go back to Harker for summer school,” Lisa Liu (9) said.

Whether spending the break lazing or participating in other activities, students shared an overwhelming joy about the end of the finals and the commencement of summer break.
