College counseling holds last session for seniors
Seniors gathered in their respective college counseling locations during extra help on Tuesday for their last college counseling session.
During the session, the counselors talked about spring college visits, wait lists, gap years and UC results and reminded students to submit a deposit by May 1 to the college they decide on.
The counselors also congratulated the seniors for getting through the college application process and encouraged students to continue updating them with decisions and news.
“It’s been really great to meet and get to work with students with such a variety of interests and talents,” college counselor Andrew Quinn, who came to the Upper School this year, said.
Many seniors reflected upon their experiences in college counseling and recalled things that they learned. For senior Kelly Wang, the most important piece of advice was “the fact that it’s not really competition; it’s more about finding the right fit for you.”
Others felt a bit of nostalgia at the thought of finishing the college application process.
“It’s kind of a bittersweet thing,” senior Vivek Sriram said. “It’s nice to know that the whole process is over, but it’s also kind of fun going every week and learning what the next thing in the college process is.”
Although counselors reminded seniors to keep track of their grades, they also encouraged students to relax as second-semester seniors.
“Enjoy the remaining time in high school, because it’s all going to change next year,” college counselor Nicole Burrell said. “You’ll stay friends and have relationships with the people in your class for the rest of your life, but this moment in time will never come again. Just enjoy what you have, which is a really great community with a great group of classmates.”
College counselors will still be available for additional meetings with seniors. Drop-in times are on Tuesday and Friday after school.
