Freshman class sells milk tea to raise money
The freshman student council sold drinks from Tpumps, a Bay Area based milk tea store, during extra help outside Manzanita and at the front loading zone on Tuesday to raise money for the freshman class.
Freshman class president, Jimmy Lin, commented on the use of the profits from the sale.
“With the revenue that we make from that, we hope to contribute to our freshman class fund, which we are going to be using throughout our four years high school career in terms of spirit events, dances and all things like that,” he said.
Student council partnered with Interact during its club week to offer a discount for students who buy products from both organizations. The freshman student council will only sold on Tuesday, rather than Interact who will be selling Monday to Friday.
If students choose to buy a milk tea, they will be charged $5 which will go to the freshman fund, and if they buy a frozen yogurt, they will be charged $5 to go to Interact’s donation. If they buy both together, they will pay $8.
“The money will be split between us, four and four,” Spirit Coordinator Maxwell Woehrmann said. “It’s a pretty good deal.”
Members of student council sold mango passion peach milk tea and vanilla rose milk tea, both with boba. Vice President Darren Gu (9) commented on the experience from selling.
“We plan on learning from our mistakes to improve from this fundraiser to progress in the future,” he said.
Priyanka Taneja (10) purchased the milk tea and shared her opinion on the price.
“It’s a great idea,” she said. “[It’s] way too expensive, but I guess that’s how they make money.”
Vanessa Tyagi (9) voiced a different thought on the pricing.
“I think that it was fairly priced considering the whole purpose of selling Tpumps was to raise money for the freshman class,” she said.
The student council sold out of all of the milk tea by the end of extra help. The members plan on announcing the amount of money they made at the freshman class morning meeting next Tuesday.
