The Spanish National Honor Society will have an Annual Spanish Cultural Night that is open to students who took Spanish during middle or high school on Friday, Feb. 27 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Any student who wishes to perform a culture related performance should contact Abel Olivas or Sachin Peddada (12) by Feb. 6. The Spanish National Honor Society will hold auditions on Feb. 18 during long lunch.

Green Committee talked about protecting the environment and food waste. About 40 percent of edible food is wasted every year, but if the amount of wasted food decreases by 15 percent, it is enough to feed 25 million Americans. In a school year of 170 days, Harker wastes about 15,000 pounds of food each year. The committee showed a video that was made by lower school students to remind high school students about the “wet and dry” separation for trash.

Female Empowerment (FEM), Interact and Key clubs are hosting a community service event for the entire school on Wednesday during long lunch from 11:20 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in front of Manzanita. They will make bookmarks that will be sent to an organization called Students Rebuild, which will donate $2 for each bookmark to another organization called Save the Children. The funds will go to education programs in Latin America, Africa and Southeast Asia.

FEM will be holding their club week this week to raise money for a program, Women Stand Together, that is part of an organization, Heal Africa, that provides educational services in Africa. FEM will be selling baked goods and organizing a book table during lunches outside Manzanita, where people can check out books about poverty and gender-based violence. Also, they will be setting up a booth for more information about gender inequality.

CareerConnect is holding their second career panel, which is about law. During long lunch from 12 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. this Wednesday, three professionals from the field will be discussing their career path and how they became lawyers.

The research symposium will be held on April 11 with speakers, demonstrations and student presenters. Students who are interested in interested in participating are required to sign up by this Friday. The link to the signup form is on the PCR announcements page.

A Valentine’s-themed spirit event will be held this Wednesday during long lunch on Rosenthal Field.

Over 250 singers from the lower, middle, and upper school are performing this Friday at the United Voices concert at the Mexican Heritage Theatre at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 for students and $15 for adults and are only available on the website or at the entrance for the concert.

Varsity girls soccer has their senior night this Thursday at 3:15 p.m. on Davis Field while the Varsity boys soccer team has theirs this Wednesday at 3 p.m. on Davis Field. Girls Basketball is holding their senior night next week on Feb. 10. Spring sports start today, and students who are participating have to attend a mandatory meeting with their parents tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. in the Blackford MPR.

There is a special schedule tomorrow for AMC 10 and 12 testing.
