Spring sports begin next Monday
A new season starts next Monday, Feb. 2 for all spring sports. The spring sports’ teams include baseball, softball, track & field, boys tennis, boys volleyball, swimming, girls lacrosse and boys golf. In preparation for the upcoming season, many athletes have been working hard during these past weeks, or even months.
The boys golf team is expecting to surpass last year’s record. Five new freshmen are joining and along with the veterans, the team will have 12 people in total, enough to have a junior varsity team this year.
“I’ve been practicing a little more often than usual, and I’m really looking forward to the overall experience of playing on a high school team,” Jin Kim (9) said. “But specifically, I’m hyped about the fact that one of our tournaments is in Palm Springs.”
Jin has been playing golf seriously for three years, and this season will be his first opportunity to play with a team.
The girls lacrosse team players have also been preparing through workouts. These workouts are mandatory for those in varsity or want to be considered for varsity. The varsity team has 17 spots available.
“I’ve gone to the Forbes workouts, which help you get back in shape, and on runs quite often on my own to get fit and speedy again for this season,” Shreya Sunkara (10) said. “I’m looking forward to spending every afternoon with my team, because we always have so much fun together.”
As for the baseball team, many seniors decided to join the team as one of their last high school experiences. Players on the team anticipate a larger and stronger team. In total, the team now has twelve seniors.
“I have a lot more freedom to do things that I haven’t been able to do in high school and baseball is one of them, so now I really look forward to the season,” Steven Wang (12) said. “Playing with the team, you create a very close-knit family that you travel with.”
Although winter season is not over yet, athletes participating in spring sports are ready to get a head start in their game.
