Varsity girl’s basketball improves with win over Priory
Varsity girls basketball defeated the Woodside Priory Panthers 64 – 46 at Blackford tonight.
Sophomore Jordan Thompson scored the first basket of the game in a fast-break layup. Building on the momentum, the Eagles maintained a solid lead throughout each quarter, culminating to a 18 point victory.
Jordan led the team in points, totaling 38 through all four quarters, including six three-pointers and twelve free throws. She was followed by freshmen Elizabeth Beamish and Satchi Thockchom, who added eleven and six points respectively.
“Jordan’s an incredible player. Talent is talent. She’s a sophomore, but she’s got the knowledge of someone who’s been playing for a lot of years,” Head Coach Alfredo Alves said.
After a close first-quarter, the Eagles pushed forward to round out the first half with a thirteen point lead. The Panthers narrowed the gap by outscoring the Eagles 12-10 in the third quarter. The fourth quarter saw the Eagles score 14 against the Panthers’ 8.
“They played really well,” said Elizabeth. “They had that shooter #32 [Tatiana Reese], but we still came out with it. We played really hard.”
Both Elizabeth and Team Captain Lekha Chirala (12) felt the referees missed several calls during the game.
“Overall, the referees could have definitely been a little more aware,” Lekha said.
The Varsity girls will play at home again on Friday against Crystal Springs at 6 pm.
“I’m looking forward to the growth of the entire team. It’s all starting to come together,” Alves said.
