Choral concert features Bel Canto, Cantilena, Camerata and Guy’s Gig
Bel Canto, Cantilena, Camerata and Guy’s Gig performed at their first choral concert of the year last Friday night in the Nichols Auditorium from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
This year, the general theme of the concert was love, which was adapted from one of the songs that Cantilena sang, “Ad Amore.”
For many singers, this was their first experience with such a large performance.
“I feel that it’s been a really big switch since our last performance, but I still feel confident that we’re going to do well,” Sahil Kapur (9) said. “I’m slightly nervous, but I’m still excited.”
Many performers who have done this before also felt excitement for the concert.
“I guess I’m excited because it’s the first major concert where we’re all performing in,” Akshaya Premkumar (11) said. “I mean I feel like this is nothing to be nervous about; I mean, it’s fun and we all know our music.”
Many of the performers thought of the songs as a diverse style of music than some of the styles they have sung before.
“[The songs are] actually really different from what I’ve done before, but they’re all really interesting. I love that they all come from different backgrounds,” Zahra Budhwani (10) said. “I think [Ms. Nace and Ms. Sandusky] chose [the theme] because it’s all very different music and it’s all really beautiful, but it’s all diverse, which I think is really nice to hear because we all have different voices and choirs.”
For some seniors, like Maya Nandakumar, this is going to be their last year they will be performing with this group, making it a memorable concert.
“Since this is like my last year in Cantilena, it’s bittersweet because I think I’ll miss these fall concerts, so I mean just the fact that this is the very last one I’ll get to do with this group of people is really sad,” Maya said. “But at the same time these concerts always end up being really beautiful in a way.”
