Varsity football defeats Emery High School
The Harker varsity football team won against Emery High School with a final score of 64-40 yesterday.
At seven minutes and 34 seconds of the first quarter of the game, the Harker football team was ahead 8-0.
Head Coach Ron Forbes commented on how the team has grown closer to each other, and how it really contributed to their better performances during games.
“[The football team has] been close since day one; they’re a tight-knit group and this is one of the tightest teams that I’ve ever coached,” Forbes said. “[Their closeness with each other] is absolutely critical, not just important, critical because they have to count on each other and they have to be accountable to each other so it’s very important that they trust each other.”
Bobby Schick (9) also complimented on the improvement of the team.
“I have a lot of confidence [in the team] because so far, we’ve won two games in a row. I think that this team is going to do really well,” he said. “We could win our next two games and we could go five and five and I think next season, we definitely have a chance at being very good.”
After a Harker touchdown Nathaniel Kelly (9) ran the ball in for a successful two point conversion. During halftime, the score stood at 50-26. The captains believe in the indomitable spirit their team has and how it plays a great role in their victories.
“Every single week we tell them the same thing, if we come out and do our job, then obviously we can come out with the win and tonight we definitely showed that,” Allen Huang (12), one of the football captains, said. “We really, really stuck together and even when we gave a big play to the other team, we didn’t let that falter in our other games and we just kept on going and we won.”
The football team will be playing against Immanuel High School next Friday at 7:30 pm but away instead of home.
