Giants defeat Royals in game one of the World Series
The San Francisco Giants defeated the Kansas City Royals 7-1 in the first game of the World Series today.
The Giants garnered a three run lead during the first inning after a home run by Hunter Pence; the team then went on to score two more runs in both the fourth and seventh innings. Salvador Perez scored the only run for the Royals with a homer in the seventh inning.
Some students on campus had the opportunity to watch the first part of the game in the Edge.
“The only reason I decided to watch the game is because we’re in a world series, which I guess makes me a bandwagon fan,” Aishu Murari (11) said. She watched the first inning of the game with other juniors on the TV in the Bistro.
“I don’t really care, because I don’t really follow baseball,” Amar Jain (11) said. He also watched the first part of the game in the Bistro. “It’s great if they win.”
San Francisco fan Arjun Ashok (12) was enthusiastic about the prospects of the Giants in the World Series.
“I think it’s honestly a great victory that’ll hopefully set the tone for the rest of the series,” Arjun Ashok (12) said. “The Royals are definitely a fast team so it should be a good series, but a victory like this for the Giants really is significant”
The giants are playing for their third World Series title in the last decade after winning the championship in 2012 and 2010. This game marks the first World Series appearance for the Royals since 1985.
Having won their first game, the Giants need three more victories in the seven game tournament to win the World Series. The Giants square off against the Royals at Ewing M. Kauffman Stadium again tomorrow at 5:07pm.
