This still from “New Girl”’s title sequence perfectly encapsulates the premise of the show, as Nick (Jake Johnson), Schmidt (Max Greenfield), and Winston (Lamorne Morris) gather around the arrival of their quirky roommate Jess, played by Zooey Deschanel. “New Girl” currently has a 7.9/10 rating on IMDb and an 8/10 on TV.com, in addition to winning a Critics’ Choice Television Award for Most Exciting New Series in 2011.
“New Girl,” a comedy series, produced by Zooey Deschanel, is about the lives of Jessica “Jess” Day (Deschanel) and her roommates. It is an entertaining show which lives up to expectations.
The series begins when Jessica “Jess” Day (Deschanel) moves into an apartment with three other people: Nick Miller (Jake Johnson), Schmidt (Max Greenfield), and Winston Bishop (Lamorne Morris). Jess’s best friend, Cece (Hannah Simone), a model, is another major character, who is in most of the episodes. As the series progresses, various changes are made amongst the roommates, and a new character is added in season three named Coach (Damon Wayans Jr).
The show is about the problems the characters face in their everyday lives, revolving around the topics of relationships and friendship. Although “New Girl” is a comedy show, it is still relatable, as the characters are just normal people who are facing the types of issues that a typical adult in real life would too.
Normally, comedies tend to become less entertaining after a couple seasons, but “New Girl” keeps the audience constantly laughing with all the funny scenes. During the third season, the plot became slightly boring, but the jokes remained hilarious. Also, the acting has not deteriorated. Zooey Deschanel continues to perform well and she fits her character’s personality. All of the actors represent their character’s personality and their particular traits excellently, making the show even better.
Currently, “New Girl” has a 7.9/10 rating on IMDb and an 8/10 from TV.com. In addition to those ratings, the show won a Critics’ Choice Television Award for Most Exciting New Series in 2011, and Zooey Deschanel won another Critic’s Choice Television Awards for Best Actress in a Comedy Series. The show deserves these awards because not only is their acting great, but each episode is entertaining, making it a good show to watch to pass time.
“New Girl” aired its last episode of season three on May 6, and has been renewed for a fourth season, which will premiere on September 14.
