SPIRIT WEEK: Regatta recap
Upper School participates in noodle boat Regatta
The Upper School participated in the annual boat Regatta at the Singh Aquatic Center as a part of Spirit Week today.
The regatta is centered around a race in which four boats, one constructed by each class, have to cross four pool lengths with one rower and one swimmer to guide the boat. Volunteers from each class included rowers Isabel Lai (9), Yasemin Narin (10), Ishanya Anthapur (11), Vincent Lin (12), as well as swimmers Jack Farnahm (9), Karen Tu (10), Aaron Huang (11), Stephan Pellissier (12), among many others.
The Class of 2015 prevailed in the race for the third year in a row, while the seniors came in second, the freshmen in third, and the sophomores in fourth. However, the seniors took the lead in the competition, as Class of 2014 advisors jumped into the pool. Advisors jumped into the pool to deduct time from their classes’ race time.
Although the sophomores placed last, Spirit Coordinator Edward Sheu (10) had high expectations for his class.
Unlike last year, students were asked to construct more environmentally-friendly boats composed of pool noodles instead of duct tape.
“I thought that the boats were very well constructed and created, and that they were very unique based on each class,” Brandon Aguilar (11) said.
After the race, students and faculty were given the opportunity to belly flop into the pool for fun.
The final results of the regatta were announced at the spirit rally today with juniors placing first, seniors second, freshmen third, sophomores last.
