Students channeled the wild outdoors as they dressed up in wilderness-themed outfits for the third day of Fall Spirit Week today.

Many students wore camo clothing and some sported bear and tiger costumes, while accessories ranged from binoculars and ranger hats to cameras and walkie talkies. Others deviated from the typical green or brown attire and opted to embody the wilderness in more unconventional ways.

“It was really chilly this morning, so I decided to go as an Arctic explorer because I had lots of winter gear,” David said. “This theme in general, Wilderness Wednesday, there’s a lot of room for interpretation. For example, I also saw a lot of grizzly bears and that was really fun.”

To qualify for spirit points, students’ outfits had to include at least one major wildlife-related element along with an accessory. HSLT member Patricia Li (10) noted how today’s theme made spirit point check-ins particularly entertaining compared to previous days.

“It was really fun to see what everyone had put together because when I checked them in, I was able to see the small details everyone put in their outfits,” Patricia said. “Today, a lot more people dressed up and won points for their classes because the theme was so versatile.”

Junior Ameera Ramzan found that the flexible dress-up day themes encouraged students to showcase ensembles they wouldn’t usually wear.

“It’s really cool to see everyone’s wilderness gear,” Ameera said. “Everyone took a different, creative approach to it, so you see more variety than you see with the other dress-up days. Overall, it’s been super hype. I love to see what people can pull out of their closet and make into an outfit.”

HSLT originally planned on hosting a series of “Minute to Win it” games, sixty-second challenges initially popularized by a TV show of the same name, in front of Manzanita Hall. However, the activity was cancelled due to a miscommunication in ordering materials.

Tomorrow’s events include the spirit rally and spirit parade, where students will wear their class shirts to support their grade.
