Members of the Class of 2026 gathered on Davis Field for the annual Senior Sunrise celebration at 6 a.m. on Monday.

As the first students back on campus, seniors cozied up with blankets, hot chocolate and donuts to watch the sunrise before the first day of school began.

“The sunrise is the start of the year, which I think is super cool, because at the end we have the Baccalaureate, which is our senior sunset,” senior student council representative Nikhil Sharma said. “To me, it’s just coming together as a class before school starts and celebrating the fact that we survived three years of high school.”

Before the event, Class Council worked on promotional campaigns on social media to encourage students to show up early in the morning and created handmade photo frames for their classmates to take photos.

“It’s one of those wonderful traditions where there’s not really a big event plan,” Class of 2026 Dean Meredith Cranston said. “There’s not a lot of structure. There’s no inspirational speeches. It’s just a time to get together, enjoy one another’s company and set the tone for the kind of community spirit that we want to see this year as our last year.”

Following the sunrise, the 12th graders lined up to record a class video and take a group photo. With still an hour before first period, many students left campus to grab breakfast before classes, while others lingered on the field to simply enjoy their first moments as seniors.

Senior girls come together for a photo. Before splitting off for breakfast with friends or other morning celebrations, the Class of 2026 took a group photo to commemorate their last first day of high school.

“The experience was great because it was an opportunity to bond together as a class, and seeing everyone on the field together and taking a class photo really just solidified the fact that we were seniors and we were getting a great start to our senior year,” senior Joy Hu said. “For our friend group we had a barbecue and a sleepover before senior sunrise, so it was a great way to get closer.”
