Rows of macarons decorate the display at Bottega Louie in Downtown Los Angeles. Harker Aquila visited Bottega Louie on Thursday for dinner.

Bottega Louie

Location: 700 S Grand Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90017

Bottega Louie on LA’s Grand Avenue, a gourmet bakery and restaurant serves both sweet and savory, from macarons and cakes to pizza and steak.

Upon entering the restaurant, guests are greeted by a colorful display case, lined with dozens of flavors of macarons, cakes and other desserts for purchase. Walking further in, you’ll find a wall of gift boxes and chocolates decorated like a candy store.

In addition, the restaurant features three stations where restaurant-goers can view the chefs and baristas behind open glass screens mix drinks, plate dishes or stretch pizza dough for their enjoyment.

The menu has sections for salads, pizzas, pastas, sides and entrees, including scallops, 15-ounce ribeyes and Scottish salmon.

Although, the food was on the pricey side, with eight-slide pizzas starting at $30 and pasta plates starting at $26. Waiters were helpful with seating large parties, especially in the spacious seating areas, but the large areas also led to a loud and sometimes distracting eating environment.

Along with the food choices, customers could also order an Italian soda in six different flavors for eight dollars, a sweet combination of cream, ice, syrup and soda.

“My favorite part was probably the sodas that they had. There was an Italian strawberry soda and a peach soda, and those just gave me very much 50s cute café vibes,” Lavanya Subramanian (11), who ate at the restaurant on Thursday, said. “I would definitely recommend it.”
