Stories from quarantine: “The outfit I never wore”
May 25, 2020
Over the last week, members of Harker Journalism dug through their closets to pull out outfits and accessories they haven’t touched since quarantine started—a glimmer of normalcy in a time of uncertainty and change. These images showcase the styles, fashions and trends of our yearbook and newspaper staffs as each piece of clothing has its own story: one that has been, like many others, overturned by this pandemic.
This is one of my favorite jackets, and I love how silky it is. It's been one of my favorites for the past few years, but now it sits in my closet unused.
I used to go hiking in the Montalvo Park on the weekends with my family, but during the quarantine, I haven't been able to anymore. I would have worn an outfit like this: a light jacket, some leggings or track pants, a cap and my sneakers.

This is the dress I was planning to wear to prom this year. I actually bought it last year for prom, but I didn’t end up going, so I went dress shopping with my friends and tried on about eight other ones. Since the neckline is this gorgeous laced mesh, I'm not able to wear a necklace with it, but I bought matching earrings that look like golden raindrops with little beads of black. I was really excited to go to prom and take beautiful photos with my friends, but it looks like this will be my dress for next year.
With the end of the year fast approaching, I was planning on wearing more fun button ups. The flamingo shirt was my favorite button up that I owned, and I wanted to wear it at school more. I had recently bought the shoes and enjoyed wearing them, and they came with the extra bonus of being waterproof.
As people began talking about schools closing across the Bay Area, I started noticing things I enjoyed about coming to school everyday. I realized that wearing outfits out of my comfort zone gave me an outlet for my creativity, so I planned to wear this outfit the day the Friday that school closed. I have always liked the color white because it represents light and positivity, and the pastel blue skirt complements the white. My Doc Martens are my favorite pair of shoes because they make me feel powerful, and I thought it would be interesting to pair that with the silver necklace.
