Humans of Harker

February 4, 2014

In the style of Brandon Stanton’s Humans of New York, Aquila highlights the notable pastimes of random students from the Upper School campus. Check out Jason Jeong (11), Ayla Ekici (10), and Gabriela Gupta (11) for Humans of Harker’s debut online appearance, and make sure to grab a copy of the most recent issue of the Winged Post to see the full article!

I watched this Italian movie when I was in 7th grade called Cinema Paradiso, and it was one of the most beautiful movies I’ve ever watched.

Jason holds up a map of Italy, the country of origin for his favorite foreign film.

Junior Jason Jeong estimates the number of foreign films he’s seen to be somewhere between 30 to 40. His favorite movie is also the first foreign film he’s ever watched: Cinema Paradiso, directed by Giuseppe Tornatore. He enjoys watching French, Italian, Korean, Chinese, and Japanese films for their artistic nature.

I like to read before I go to bed. It’s really calming.

Ayla poses with a copy of George Orwell’s 1984 in front of the Saratoga campus library after school.

Ayla spends her free time reading mostly fiction novels or books recommended by her friends. Her favorite book is The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, and she is currently reading A Little F’d Up: Why Feminism is Not a Dirty Word by Julie Zeilinger.

You don’t even have to have an out-there style. You can just get regular stuff that people don’t want anymore or grew out of.

Gabi believes that thrifting is a win-win situation, helping both the environment and her wallet. She finds it disappointing that nearby thrift stores are relatively expensive, so she recommends San Francisco for cheaper finds. Some of Gabi’s favorite thrift stores located around campus are on the map below.
