Biden puts $500 million dollars towards stopping Amazon deforestation
U.S. President Joe Biden promised $500 million towards limiting deforestation in the Amazon rainforest on April 20, and he plans to spend over $1 billion to help foreign countries adopt renewable energy sources. The money will be donated to a conservation project called the Amazon Fund over a period of five years, and it will contribute to Brazil’s goal of eliminating all Amazon deforestation by 2030. However, the pledge still needs to be approved by Congress before being put into effect, and many Republicans have already voiced their disapproval. The group noted that funds to support forests in the U.S. are already insignificant and donating a large sum of money to foreign countries would only worsen the situation. As a result, it is uncertain whether the policy will actually be implemented.
