The Proper Restaurant & Bar
Location: 464 Foothill Blvd, La Cañada Flintridge, CA 91011
Buried on a street corner in the bustling roads of Pasadena you’ll find a simple yet classy Italian restaurant, The Proper Restaurant & Bar on Sunset Avenue. Founded in 2013 by Rick Anderson, Lisa Anderson, David Yost and Cater Yost, the restaurant serves scratch food and is also known for its historic L.A. memorabilia.
The restaurant aims to create an elegant environment, with decor like white bathroom floor tiles contrasting the dark wood tables, while green booths and bright blue chairs give a pop of color to the restaurant.
Unique to the Proper Restaurant & Bar, the navy blue walls behind the booth seating give the restaurant a library feel with worn-out books stacked on the shelves and black and white photographs standing out against the dark walls.
The food was on the more expensive side, with salads starting at $14 and other entrees priced to $34, and seating was crowded due to the limited tables. Many of the seats were booths, which created difficult situations when those on the inside needed to step out.
In general, the servers were helpful with different preferences, dietary restrictions and add-ons while ordering. With a variety of food options, the menu was considerate to vegetarians and gluten-free eaters and easily removed ingredients, providing more options for customers.
