Born on Feb. 18, 1992 in Mobile, Alabama, 23-year-old Tartt only began playing football his senior year at Davidson High School in Mobile, Alabama, where he started as a safety. He played a mere season before committing to Samford University’s football program.
Interestingly, throughout his high-school-career, Tartt focused his efforts on basketball and was named to the Mobile Press Register’s All-Academic basketball team before discovering football. At Samford, he started as free safety his sophomore to senior years and recorded a total of 277 tackles and 6 interceptions.
In 2010, he “redshirted,” and focused on improving his abilities. In 2011, he played in 10 games, amassing 23 tackles and 20 solo stops. In 2012, playing the position of free safety, he was named first team All-SoCon and second team All-American. In 2013, he started in every game and was named first-team All-Conference in addition to first-team All-American. He was also a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, an accolade awarded annually to the defensive player who displays superlative and unmatched performance on the field.
Tartt was Stamford’s first player chosen to play in the Senior Bowl, a post-season all-star game played by NFL Draft prospects; the athletes at the vanguard of college football. In the 2015 NFL Draft, Tartt was 46th pick overall and will play with the 49ers.
