Yesterday, the varsity softball team beat Menlo School during a league game 8-0 in all around solid offensive and defensive game.
Though the game was close through the first four innings, the bats came alive in the fifth with a series of hits including Ashley Del Alto’s (11) triple, bringing in three RBI’s. Ashley has a total of four RBI’s by the time the game had finished.
“All of the sudden, one inning we just exploded–came up with bases loaded and Ashley Del Alto crushed one and it just kind of changed the momentum of the entire game,” Coach Raul Rios said.
Overall, the team had eight runs on eight hits, including doubles by first baseman Angela Singh (12) and pitcher Alison Rugar (11). Ali also threw 16 strikeouts over the course of the game, whereas Menlo pitched only five.
“Beating Menlo is a challenge for us because there has been a long history between Menlo and Harker. It’s a really good program,” Coach Ray Fowler said.
After coming off a win against the previously undefeated in league team Mercy High School, the team’s energy is up ready to face Mercy at home on Thursday.
“Everyone’s happy. […] I like seeing everyone with a lot of energy and just being pumped up after the win,” said Ashley.
After this win, the team is now 5-2 in league.
