The Varsity boys’ basketball season came to a close Tuesday night, February 28, in a 44-68 defeat against the Sacred Heart Preparatory (SHP) Gators in the CCS playoff semifinals.

SHP would put up nine consecutive points before the Eagles were able to finally score and maintained their aggressive offense to end the first quarter with 16 points to our six. Despite multiple fouls from SHP that resulted in a double bonus for the Eagles during the second quarter, the Gators scored relentlessly, ending the first half with a 42-21 lead.

The Eagles fought to close the gap in the second half, with Nikhil Panu (11) scoring right at the beginning of the second half to the roar of student, parent, and faculty fans. Unfortunately for the Eagles, SHP hit numerous three-point shots, increasing their lead to 60-34 by the end of the third quarter.

In what would be the last quarter of this year’s Varsity basketball season, the Eagles rotated in all of their players so that they would get a chance to play. They succeeded in scoring 10 more points and ended the game 44-68, leaving SHP to move on to the finals.

After the final buzzer sounded, Eagles fans flooded from the bleachers onto the court to support their tired team. Students and faculty in the stands, particularly the student group Eagle Nation, cheered the Eagles on throughout the entire game, regardless of score.
